Marsha Ali, SER Manager, NVIDIA Corp.

Marsha Ali is the SER Manager at NVIDIA Corporation, which is a member of the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), an electronics industry coalition to improve the working conditions where electronics are produced. Marsha is the Co-lead on the EICC Sustainability Working Group which is collecting data from electronics industry suppliers on their carbon/water footprint. Her previous work experience includes Mattel Inc and The Home Depot where she worked on supply chain compliance issues. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Environmental Management and Policy; an MBA and an undergraduate degree in Zoology.

 

Dave Asplund, Global EHS Manager, Juniper Networks Inc.

David joined the Juniper team in February of 2007 as Global Manager of Environmental, Health and Safety. David currently drives Juniper’s operational sustainability initiatives and is currently developing Juniper’s first Corporate Social Responsibility Report. David has 20 plus years of EHS experience primarily in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. In addition to David’s industry experience, he spent several years as a municipal firefighter/engineer.

 

Joe Bialowitz, MS, HEM, Project Manager, Environmental Stewardship, Kaiser Permanente

Joe Bialowitz advances individual and community health by assisting with continuous efforts to incorporate sustainability into the activities of America’s largest integrated health care provider, Kaiser Permanente. He coordinates several cross-functional environmental stewardship projects at Kaiser Permanente, including key elements of the organization’s climate action, waste reduction and employee engagement activities. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, he developed and implemented ISO 14001-certified environmental management systems for companies in the United States and Europe. Mr. Bialowitz holds an Advanced M.S. degree in Environmental Management from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, an M.S. degree in Urban Planning from Columbia University, and a B.A. degree in Political Science from Stanford University.

 

Rodney Davis, Manager Global Sustainability, Mattel Inc.
Mr. Davis has 15 years of work experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility, with his last 8 years at Mattel. He has a B.S. from Indiana State University in Occupational Health and Safety Management and Risk Management, and an M.P.H. from Indiana University with an emphasis in Environmental Science and Epidemiology.

 

Katie Excoffier, Sustainability Manager, Genentech

Katie Excoffier is the Sustainability Manager at Genentech in South San Francisco. She is responsible for sustainability strategy and reporting. Genentech regularly reports progress on achieving their greenhouse gas and water reduction goals through an annual sustainability report. Genentech has participated in reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project, the California Climate Action Registry, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and most recently, EPA’s Climate Leaders program. Katie also leads Genentech’s “Green Genes” team which gives employees an opportunity to be engaged in sustainability efforts. Before coming to Genentech in 2007, Katie was an R&D director and business director at Varian, Inc. for their analytical instruments and data systems. Katie holds a BA in Biology from UCSD, and an MS in Genetics from UC Berkeley. She is currently completing her MBA in sustainable management from Presidio Graduate School.

 

Cliff Hanna, Director of EHS, Amylin Pharmaceuticals

Cliff Hanna is Director of Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety for Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Amylin is a San Diego based biotech company with more than 1,500 employees, dedicated to challenging science and changing lives by developing first in class medicines to treat diabetes and metabolic disorders. In his role, Cliff is responsible for all aspects of EH&S including occupational safety programs, environmental permitting and compliance, and sustainability efforts such as recycling and waste reduction. Amylin is ISO 14001 certified, has LEED certified space (including laboratory space), and has photovoltaic cells on one rather large roof. Amylin was a California WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) winner in 2009, and has won several other awards for environmental excellence. Mr. Hanna is degreed in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech, is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and has been in the field of EH&S for over twenty years, mostly in biotech. He is a past president of the San Diego Chapter of the AIHA, and is currently serving a term on his community planning board as well as the Torrey Pines Association. He is currently co-chair of BIOCOM’s Environmental and Safety Committee, and is also co-chair of the Industrial Environmental Association Hazmat Committee.

 

Aston Hinds, Ph.D, PMP, Environmental Affairs Manager, Port of Houston Authority

Dr. Aston A. Hinds is the Senior Environmental Affairs Manager at the Port of Houston Authority, in Houston, Texas. He was formerly the Vice President, Global Health, Safety and Environment, for Halliburton Company and its predecessor companies, Dresser Industries Inc., and Baroid Corporation from 1989 – 2001. Dr. Hinds is an internationally recognized Environmental Specialist, and a Technical Advisor to industry, trade associations, as well as federal, state and local governmental agencies. He is the author of over 60 publications covering various environmental subjects and is certified by the Project Management Institute, as a Project Management Professional. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Hinds has worked for both government and industry in areas such as technology development, pollution prevention, the implementation of Environmental Management Systems, sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. He received his doctorate in Environmental Science from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and is a graduate of the Rice University Management Program and the Advanced Management Institute.

 

Sara Kendall, Vice President, EHS & Sustainability, Weyerhauser Co.

Sara Kendall is the Vice President for the Corporate EHS & Sustainability department at Weyerhaeuser Company, a $5 billion/sales Forest Products Company headquartered in Washington State, with operations across North America, as well as South America and China. She is responsible for the company’s EHS programs such as auditing, remediation, safety, regulatory affairs and EHS technical and training support to operations as well as the company’s sustainability initiatives and performance tracking and reporting. She leads the Company’s policy efforts on global climate change policy. Previously she has worked in the Weyerhaeuser Law Department as well as the company’s Wood Products and Timberlands businesses. Ms. Kendall was natural resource legislative counsel for Washington State U.S. Senators Daniel J. Evans and Slade Gorton. She received a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center, a Master of Forest Science (MFS) from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a BA in Political Science from Northwestern University. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Environmental Law Institute and is currently serving on EPA’s National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology.

 

Bruce Klafter, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability, Applied Materials

Bruce heads up Applied’s EHS department, which is responsible for assisting business units worldwide with compliance, industrial hygiene, product safety and various strategic initiatives.  The Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability role encompasses a wide variety of reporting, employee engagement and other projects aimed at enhancing Applied’s global citizenship programs.  Before assuming his current role, Bruce was EHS counsel for the Company.  Prior to joining Applied in August, 2000, Bruce was Chair of the Environmental Group at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in San Francisco.  Bruce began his career in 1980 as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California. Bruce is a past Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel America’s national Environmental Committee as well as a past chair of the State Bar of California’s Environmental Law Section and the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Environmental Committee.  Bruce presently serves as an Advisory Council member for Sustainable Silicon Valley, the Association of Climate Change Officers and for Next Ten’s Green Innovation Index. Bruce received his JD from the University of California-Davis School of Law in 1980 and served as an Editor of the UC-Davis Law Journal and as Editor of Environs.  He earned a B.S. magna cum laude in Urban and Environmental Planning (interdisciplinary) from Tufts University in 1976.

 

Ramana Kolluri, Manager, EHS Management Information Systems, Barrick Gold Inc.

Ramana Kolluri is responsible for selecting, implementing, and maintaining Environmental, Safety, and Health Management Information Systems at Barrick Gold.  In addition, he is also part of the team responsible for implementing Barrick Gold’s Environmental Management System at Barrick’s 26 operating mines and several projects across five continents around the world.  Prior to joining Barrick Gold in 2005, Ramana worked for environmental consulting firms (Trinity Consultants and ERM).  Ramana’s areas of expertise include EHS Information Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Air Permitting and Dispersion Modeling.  Ramana graduated with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1994.

 

Yonnie Leung, Manager, Supply Chain Strategy & Performance Manager, PG&E Inc.

Yonnie Leung, Manager of Supply Chain Strategy, has been with PG&E for five years. She currently leads a team of analysts that is uniquely positioned to identify innovative programs, to implement more efficient processes and to provide supply chain analytics in order to support the company's supply chain leaders in creating a more productive and sustainable organization. Key programs include environmental supply chain management, supply chain talent management, benchmarking studies and market intelligence, performance management and supplier performance management. Three years ago, she spearheaded the company's Green Supply Chain Program in order to engage PG&E's suppliers to adopt more sustainable business practices. She is also the Poles Category Working Team Lead for the Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance. Yonnie is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Walter A. Haas School of Business with a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Cultural Geography. She is currently a candidate in the Berkeley-Columbia Executive MBA Program for the Class of 2012. Prior to joining PG&E, Yonnie was a piano instructor at a California music studio.

 

David Newman, Senior Director, Sustainability, Millipore Corp.

Mr. Newman is Senior Director, Global Sustainability for Millipore Corporation, a $1.6 billion Life Sciences firm. Millipore provides products for life sciences research, development, scale-up and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Its customers include leading universities, laboratories, biotech and pharmaceutical firms worldwide. Mr. Newman leads the corporation’s Sustainability, Properties and Corporate Facilities functions. His responsibilities also include starting and leading the company’s corporate Sustainability initiative, which is sponsored by the CEO. Since 2007, the company has implemented savings projects including a 15% reduction in energy usage, installation of an onsite 310KW solar system, changeover to a hybrid vehicle fleet, and product design for sustainability programs. Prior to joining Millipore in 2003, Mr. Newman worked in EHS management consulting, and before that for a multi-national Fortune 100 manufacturing firm. He has master degrees in Public Health and Industrial Environmental Management. In addition to being a CHMM and Certified Business Continuity Planner, he is also a certified EMT and Firefighter.

 

Nancy Roberts, Instructor, Dominican University

Nancy Roberts has 20 years of experience in marketing and public relations, communications and project management for mission-driven organizations. As a founding partner of The Idea Hive, she has facilitated meetings and innovation workshops for multiple clients. A member of Dominican's Green MBA faculty, Nancy has co-taught the capstone Strategic Enterprise Planning course and systemic thinking labs, and is a faculty advisor for a student team working on a Climate Action Plan for the city of Antioch, CA. She is a project manager with the Environmental Finance Center Region 9, working with a team researching environmental finance tools under a contract with the United Nations Development Program. Nancy holds an M.B.A. in Sustainable Enterprise (Green MBA) from Dominican University of California, and M.A. and B.A. degrees from The George Washington University.

 

Nayeem Sheik, Global Energy Manager, Cisco Systems Inc.

Nayeem Sheikh is responsible for Cisco’s Global Energy and its related CO2 reduction strategy.  He has implemented several projects which have saved Cisco millions of dollars and avoided tons of CO2 emissions as well as earned Cisco the Prestigious FlexYour Power award, National Green Power Award and also a grant for the Demand Response Program. He has published papers in Energy and Building Management magazines related to Energy Efficiency, Green Power and Co-generation and has presented at several national and international conferences. He is a former co-chair of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s Energy Committee and collaborated energy programs with PG&E, CEC, SVLG member companies, SSV, BOMA, USGBC and AEE consistently. In his spare time, he enjoyswatching Indian and American movies, hiking and light cooking.
